WHAT TO WEAR TO A FALL OR WINTER WEDDING

Is it just me or are spring and summer weddings are so much easier to dress for? When it comes to figuring out what to wear to a fall or winter wedding, it’s a bit more challenging to navigate. With the change of season, you have to consider the cooler temperatures, venue, etc. Because let’s be honest… being faced with the option of looking cute or being cold feels like a no-win situation. Additionally, as a wedding guest, there are a couple things to keep in mind when figuring out what to wear to a fall or winter wedding So, let’s get started, shall we?

CONSIDER THE VENUE, FORMALITY, AND WEATHER

When selecting a dress, you should consider the formality of the wedding (the invite should specify a dress code), the weather, and venue setting.

Determining the formality helps to ensure you’re choosing the appropriate dress for the occasion – i.e. black tie, cocktail attire, etc. In terms of style, do remember that this is the bride’s day and it is still a family affair. Play it safe. Err on the side of caution if you’re questioning whether a dress is too revealing.

And when it comes to weather or venue, if you know the wedding is going to be particularly cold, choose a dress made of a heavier fabric or be sure to bring a shawl or wrap with you. And if it’s going to be outside, opt for a longer sleeve or dress length and close toed shoes or heels for extra protection against colder weather.

CHOOSE A SEASONALLY APPROPRIATE COLOR

Also, I feel like this goes without saying, but I’m going to include it anyway: Do NOT wear white to a wedding under any circumstance. Not white, not ivory, not cream, not champagne. Period. End of story. Avoid it at all costs. We have the rest of the rainbow to choose from and stealing a bride’s thunder on her big day by wearing white or anything close to it is just not worth it.

Aside from not wearing white, the world is our oyster when it comes to dressing for fall or winter weddings! During the cooler months, I love wearing rich, jewel-toned hues. Accompanied by a longer dress length and accessories that scream “celebrate!” It feels more seasonally appropriate and it’s still fun to jazz up your look and be the best dressed guest!
