Winter Skincare Routine - Morning & Night

With any change of weather, it’s important to reevaluate your skincare. And if you’ve read my daily skincare routine post, then you know I don’t mess around when it comes to taking care of my skin!

Although I don’t stray too far from my typical skincare regimen, with the dry, wintry air, it is necessary to change it up a bit. So, today I’m breaking down my full winter skincare routine – morning & night! I’ll also share the products I’ve been loving lately and tips on how to keep your skin glowing this winter.

Side note: I just got this Parachute robe for Christmas and y’all…. I seriously live in it now. Think of the dreamiest, comfiest robe ever and this is it.

No. 1 - CleansE

If there are only two things you take away from this post, please let these be it! After all, diligence is key when it comes to clear skin. My golden skincare rule starts and ends with this: ALWAYS cleanse (day and night) your face and be sure to exfoliate at least once a week.

Washing my face is literally my favorite part of everyday. In the morning, I use this cleanser with cold/luke warm water to start the day. Important: water that’s too hot can strip your skin of natural oils and break capillaries in your skin! And at night, after having makeup on all day, I double cleanse by starting with these makeup wipes here. After removing most traces of visible makeup, mascara, lipstick, etc. I wash my face with my cleanser and move onto my next skincare step.

No. 2 - EXFOLIATE

Since my skin (mostly my T-zone) gets significantly drier in the colder months, I like to exfoliate every other morning, with this product here, to avoid having flaky dry patches before putting on makeup.

I’ve recently started using this Mia Smart 3-in-1 Clarisonic and it has been a complete skincare game-changer – tackling both cleansing AND exfoliating. I have somewhat sensitive skin, so I was a bit apprehensive at first, but it’s actually been very gentle, yet effective. And I’ll admit it… I am pretty good about making sure I remove every trace of makeup when cleansing, but this Clarisonic is on another level – cleansing the skin 6x better than hands or wipes alone!

No. 3 - HYDRATE

Dry skin = time to hydrate! It’s normal for skin to be a littler drier than normal in the cold winter months. I know it’s hard, but try washing your face with colder water and showering with warm/cool water. Hot water depletes the natural oils in your skin and hair and can combat your skin’s protective barrier – in turn, not helping the whole dry winter skin problem.

If you’re like me and you get especially dry skin during the winter, try a moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid like this one here. Hyaluronic acid is a universally beneficial ingredient, but it essentially helps your skin retain moisture. So it’s great for those of you with dry skin! Depending on how dry my skin is, I usually put this moisturizer on at night and will have fresh, flake-free, hydrated skin by morning.

And last but not least, up your water intake, friends! The jury is still out on whether staying hydrated on the inside truly helps dry skin, but I say… it probably doesn’t hurt! And honestly, half of us probably aren’t drinking enough water throughout the day anyway… *Ahem… ME!* Since I have a little less than 6 months until my big day, I’ve been trying to drink at least 3 Yeti-full cups of water a day. I’m failing miserably, but I’m trying… Does that count?

No. 4 - Pamper

I tend to up the TLC whenever I switch up my skincare routine. Having struggled with my skin for so long, it’s become a defense mechanism for me to treat my skin with the utmost love and care when I’m changing a product or my regimen. (You never know when a breakout could hit y’all…)

With pampering in mind, I’ve still been jade rolling with this jade roller that I keep in the fridge in the morning to reduce puffiness and give my skin a little morning refresh.

I’ve also been sleeping with this silk sleep mask for the last couple of months and feel like I’ve not only been getting a better night’s sleep, but I also feel like I’m not smushing my face against textured cotton or down feathers (I love u but hate u down pillows).
