Microblading: Is it worth it? That is the burning question, isn’t it? Well, it’s officially been one year since I got my eyebrows microbladed. So today, I’m sharing my honest review and experience for anyone wondering if it’s right for you.

Microblading has been around for a while now and more and more people are getting it done. If you’re not one of those people, you might be curious about it or considering getting it done. So, I thought it would be helpful to share my experience with you and answer some questions you might have about the process! Keep reading as I share my opinion on microblading: is it worth it?

Microblading: is it worth it

WHY I DECIDED TO GET MY EYEBROWS MICROBLADED

My hair is super dark but my eyebrows are naturally very light/fine. So I’ve always had to fill my eyebrows in to get the fullness I desired. I was spending so much time trying to carefully pencil in my eyebrows – just to get the shape wrong and have to start over. And without eyebrow makeup, I felt like you could hardly see my eyebrows at all. Honestly, I felt so insecure without filling them in!

So when I first heard about microblading, I was instantly curious, but definitely a little skeptical. Getting a TATTOO on your eyebrows sounds so scary. Plus, it’s a big investment. But, researching and weighing the benefits, I was sold. I love anything hassle-free and minimizing the time spent in front of a mirror doing my makeup. So, I booked an appointment with David after seeing his beautiful work on instagram. (Mention my name when booking and get $20 off!)

ImportantFind a reputable person to go to in your area, ask around, look at their google reviews, make sure they’re licensed, practice in a sterile environment, and check out their website or instagram pages, etc! You want to go someone that is amazing at what they do and someone you can trust to get the best results.

The Microblading PRocess

Microblading is done in two initial sessions. My first appointment took about 3 hours. First, to minimize any pain, they applied numbing cream to my eyebrows. After the numbing cream took effect, David carefully measured and outlined the shape of my brows that he was going to apply the pigment to. Once he was done with that, he let me see what they’d look like before going further. Already, I was impressed! So I quickly agreed that it was the perfect shape and then he began microblading.

Thankfully, my entire experience was pain-free! However, I have heard that some people find it painful. (I think it probably depends on a few factors, such as who does it for you, your pain tolerance, grade of numbing cream, etc.) The only “discomfort” I experienced was a scraping noise from the blade. But it was easy to ignore after a while!

Afterwards, he gave me some post-care instructions and a healing balm to apply to my brows morning and night. My brows were pretty dark in color immediately after, but this is normal. Your brows will lighten and show their true color as they heal over the next 5-10 days.

TOUCH UPS

My second appointment was about 4-6 weeks later for a touch up – just to fill in any gaps where the pigment might not have taken. This session took about 1.5-2 hours to essentially repeat the same process as the first appointment.

Since microblading is semi-permanent, you’ll need a touch up every 12-18 months to keep your brows looking fresh and full. However, your skin type, skin care routine, and how you follow healing instructions will determine how soon you might need another touch up.

I hit my 12 month mark recently and went back for another touch up because I could tell they were starting to fade. But my skin is oily and I exfoliate a lot, so I probably need touch ups sooner than those who don’t.

THINGS TO KNOW

If you’re considering getting it done, please do your research! Find a reputable person to go to in your area. Read reviews, make sure they’re licensed, practice in a sterile environment, and check out their website or instagram! Pricing ranges anywhere from $350-$800 (usually half that for a touch-up), but don’t let pricing deter you from going to the best. Go to someone that is amazing at what they do and someone you can trust to get the best results. It’s an investment either way – so make it as safe, sterile, and as beneficial as possible!

Finally, make sure to follow the healing requirements! Use healing balm for the first 5-7 days and keep them clean, using a slightly wet cotton swab. Don’t pick at your brows! Let them scab/flake/peel naturally (picking will cause gaps in your brows!). Avoid getting your them wet and wearing makeup on/near your brows for two weeks. Whoever does your brows will be able to give you more information on how to take care of them. But essentially, treat your brows well after microblading so they heal properly and look as good as when you got them done!

Microblading: 1 Year Later
MY Final Thoughts

To wrap this up, I would 100% recommend microblading to anyone who wants fuller, more defined brows. Microblading was truly one of the best investments I ever made. I feel so much more confident without makeup now. And even though I do still fill in my eyebrows, the process is a lot quicker because the shape is already there. I also highly recommend seeing David if you’re in the Knoxville area – just DM him on instagram to set an appointment! (Mention my name when booking and get $20 off!)
