ALTERNATIVE WALL DECOR IDEAS

THAT AREN'T ANOTHER GALLERY WALL...

Personally? There’s only a few pieces of art that I truly love. Other than that, I have a hard time committing and nailing anything to the wall that I’m not sure I’ll love in a six months or even a year. (I change up my decor way too often to be confined to a color palette!) When I was designing spaces for my clients, I found that more often than not, they would need help with what to put on an empty wall. Choosing the right artwork or wall decor for your space can be difficult, and a little overwhelming. So, I’ll preface this post with something I always told my design clients: Art is very personal. What speaks to me, might not speak to you. And that’s ok! Because wall decor doesn’t have to be limited to framed art or gallery walls. And you don’t have to spend thousands of dollars to bring your bare walls to life. So keep reading to discover a few of my favorite easy and inexpensive alternative wall decor ideas!

1. HATS + BASKETS

Hanging baskets and hats is my go-to for alternative wall decor ideas. Do you have a collection of hats and straw totes? Short on closet space? No problem. Because this is a great way to provide extra storage and repurpose items you already have in your home. Plus, it’s a fun and unique wall decor solution! You can easily liven up your walls by adding an assortment of wall baskets or straw hats in all different sizes and textures. To hang, use a hat rack like this for easy access, or try hooks or pegs.

2. CREATE AN ACCENT WALL

Add stunning visual interest to your home and let the walls speak for themselves. Create an accent wall with wallpaper, fretwork, or decorative paneling. I am a huge fan of shiplap and wallpaper when it comes to alternative wall decor ideas. My bedroom walls are covered in this Priano Wallpaper from Serena and Lily and it’s truly all it needs. Sometimes wall coverings or panels are all you need to bring your bare walls to life!

3. HANG PLATES

Why hide your beautiful China when you can show it off instead? Use wire hangers to display your dishes or serving platters on the walls throughout your home. This is a great wall decor alternative for your kitchen, breakfast nook, or dining room. In the kitchen, I also love finding a space to hang cutting boards with handles like this.
